Explanation of design:
This website is designed to teach French songs through vocabulary and grammar in a French second language class.
Design issue: The biggest problem with this website is contrast. The contrast issues occur with color and size of text, including the drop down menus. The secondary problem is the music attachment playing in the background. According to Vincent Flanders: "Without proper contrast, visitors to your site can't read the text and if they can't read it, they will leave it."
Recommendations for improvement: According to Dr Natalie Milman, "Contrast makes things stand out on a page. It helps direct the reader's eye to what's important. It aids readability of headings and sub-headings, adds to color and composition, and can be used to emphasize some elements on a page, while letting others recede into the background." Robin Williams described bad design as: Text that is too small to read Meaningless or useless graphics Anything that blinks, especially text Animations that never stop Multiple animations that never stop and sounds are not even mentioned.
Recommendation for improvement would be to change the size and color of the text so that it is legible for all. The musice that constantly plays in the background could be removed because all of the links go to music clips for language learning. It is overkill. The background of little hands could be opaqued to give more emphasis to content. In order to follow the rules of web design, this would help with consistency. The site has good content and to make that apparent the color of text should be a neutral color.
